“CAS!” Sam and Dean must have heard you yell, because they were at your side in an instant. Dean pulling you away from the wall you were pounding at.
“Y/N Calm down, tell us what happened!?”Sam’s hands gripped at your shoulders, making you look at him. Dean directly behind you, arms wrapped around yours, holding you still.
“We were wrong. It’s a shifter. It has Cas.” You strained to see the wall, but Sam’s huge body blocked your view no matter how you tried to twist in Dean’s hold.
“There’s nothing there.” Sam turned at your whimper, eyes focusing on the blank wall. You let your head hang at his words. You’d failed to protect your hunting partner. Cas was trapped who knows where with an imposter that looked exactly like him. Dean and Sam shared a look over your head, before manhandling you back out the door towards the impala. Staying just insight of the door imposter-Castiel had blown wide open.
“It was a trap. The shifter - Cas-” You stumbled over your own tongue as you tried to explain what had happened.
“Sam.” Dean cut you off, you looked at Sam, watching as the younger Winchester's entire frame tensed. Focused on the building you’d been pulled out of. He turned around blocking your view of whatever had both brothers so on edge.
“Come on Y/N.” Dean pulled you back, his hand staying wrapped around your arm as he placed himself between you and whatever threat he had spotted in the door to the darkened warehouse. You gripped your weapon tighter in your hand, looking to Dean for direction. This is what you were used to, hunting with Sam and Dean, it came instinctively to you.
“Stay here Y/N. Sam.” Dean didn’t give you a chance protest. Leading Sam back inside the building. You sighed, running a hand through your hair, leaning back against the impala. Eyes falling shut as you looked up at the sky. How could you have been so foolish and ignored your gut instincts?
“Y/N.” You swore you could hear Castiel's voice as clear as day, calling you. You were already torturing yourself, thinking of the last moments you’d spent with the angel. How you’d left him alone to deal with a shifter who was stronger than he was.
“Y/N!” A hand on your shoulder startled your eyes wide open. Your head snapping to the left. Where Castiel was standing with a smile on his face, his hand outstretched and on your shoulder.
“Cas?” You knew it was him, the real him. The blood splattered clothes mattered little to you as you threw yourself into the angel's chest, your arms slinging around his neck. Castiel tensed up slightly, his arms slowly wrapping around your waist as his head rested on yours.
“Thank god!” You reassured yourself that the angel was really there with you. Pulling away abruptly to slap him. Castiel's head flopped to the side.
“Don’t you ever do that to me again!” You snapped, watching him look at you with confusion in his baby blue eyes. “I was so worried!” You continued, letting your arm rest back over his shoulder.
“I never meant-” You cut Castiel’s apology off, pulling his lips down to yours. He hesitated at first, but soon gave in. His lips moving softly against yours. One of his hands moving up to tangle in your hair.
“Y/N...” He murmured when you pulled back, his forehead resting against yours.
“I had to protect you.” He explained, his thumb caressing your cheek as he released his gentle hold on your hair.
“I could have protected myself!” The slight shake of Castiel’s head annoyed you, and you started to pull away. Cas’ grip tightened on your waist, keeping you close to him.
“He was about to explode Y/N. Even shifters cannot hold the power of an angel for long. I could not have protected you and myself. I am sorry for scaring you.” You couldn’t stay mad at Castiel, not when he leant down and kissed you again.
“I didn’t tell Sam and Dean, that the shifter was wearing you.” You whispered, pulling away and resting your head on Castiel’s shoulder.
“So I would assume is would be one of those times you would want me to lie?” Castiel asked, his head resting on top of yours.
“It’s up to you.” You answered honestly. You wouldn’t tell Castiel what you thought he should or shouldn’t tell his own friends. Castiel chuckled, kissing the top of your head.
